I'm telling you, don't try it...

Mama's Losin' It

WRITER'S WORKSHOP PROMPT:
What was your medicine? Write about a time you remember being ill.

Photobucket

It all began on Mother's Day a short time ago. We sat visiting at my mother-in-law's house when I picked up her Nutritional Healing book and while thumbing through it came across the cleansing juice fast. Hmm, that sounds interesting--I thought. And right then and there I decided to give it a try the very next day.

For this fast I had to eat nothing but raw fruits and vegetables for two days then nothing but juice, herb tea, and water on the third day followed by two more days of raw fruits and vegetables after that. The fast was surprisingly easy. By the time I reached the juice day I wasn't hungry at all and never felt the least bit deprived. It was a piece of cake (well, not cake) easy peasy and I even lost 10 pounds. Wow, this is so worth it--I told myself.

UNTIL...

The cleansing portion of my fruit and vegetable party caught up with me and OH MY GOSH I WAS SO SICK. So sick I felt like curling up in a ball and dying.
This is so not worth it--I decided--so, so not worth it.

The only medicine for this ailment was time, patience in my suffering and oh yeah, those 10 pounds I lost. That was kind of fun, but still so not worth it.

Seriously.

ooo, that sounds painful. I guess "cleansing juice" does sound a bit ominous. Well, at least you know what happens if you live on just raw fruits and vegetables all day! Glad you feel better :)

I said, "Oh no" at the words cleansing fast. I have a friend comtemplating a colon cleanse, but I'm such a chicken. I don't want my insides cleansed that bad.

Great post!

Hi there... I popped over from Mama Kat's. Oh my... a "cleansing juice". Sounds like good medicine for an ailment such as this would be a few rolls of toilet paper (the softer the better), a book by the commode, and when all is said and done, a big, fat piece of chocolate cake! :D

I wouldn't mind the 10 pounds gone, but not that whole process. Desitine is not appealing to me. That is almost worse than throwing up because...well...when you tell people you are sick they tend to ask what is wrong...Awkward

Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no. That's all. Just no.

I have a friend doing a cleansing right now, but a different kind. She hasn't eaten in two days. She isn't doing all that great to say the least. I'm pretty sure this is something that I will never try.

I hate it that things that look like a "good idea" have a tendency to catch up with you... Seems to happen to me way too often.

My post today was also about a sort of "self-induced" illness.

G.I. problems are the WORST!

Stopping by from Mama Kat's. I love the superhero that's laying facedown in your photo. Is his superhero name GI CLEANING man? TOOO funny!

Yeah - that "cleansing" just doesn't seem worth it. Live and learn, I guess, right?

So I guess I won't be attempting a cleanse like that...it does sound kind of fun though...in theory...at least it DID.

Sorry you were so sick. We started one that Aunt Lucy told us about....drink fresh lemon juice mixed w/ real maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Nothing else. She even gave us some pre-mixed. It was so HOT I only managed it a few days. Paul still mixes lemon and cayenne in w/ other drinks, but eats food besides. Your's sounds more enjoyable..until the end (no pun intended) Hope you're better and that the 10 lbs lasts.

Thanks for the warning. 10 lbs would be really nice though.

This is hilarious! I once decided to randomly fast... after I had a big shot of wheat grass juice. That was not a good idea. And I sure didn't last the whole day on my fast. :)
