S-no thanks...

WRITER'S WORKSHOP PROMPT:

Describe your worst winter weather story.

Mama's Losin' It

A letter to Dad from my college aged self--stuck in very cold Idaho:

Dear Dad—

This... that... the other...
....blah, blah, blah yakkedy, shmackkedy…

…but as far as marriage goes—I don’t think it is going to happen here. I have a very strong felling that I need to come home and see what happens. I can’t say it’s because of Rick—I do enjoy being with him and I’d like to see him again—but I don’t know if that is why I feel this way. I just think that Arizona is where I need to be again. Maybe I’m wrong, but I won’t worry myself about it. But I do know that I could never endure living my life in the cold country. It would cause marital strife. It would—I have never been so miserable! I love this school but I hate the weather and it causes unhappiness in my life. I’d much rather live where it gets to be 110 plus. I like that, it’s in my blood.

My counselor asked me if I was coming back next year and I said No Way!!! He said that I shouldn’t choose a school based on the fact that I don’t like the weather. Ask me if I wanted to hit him! It is not a matter of disliking it a bit—I have never been so uncomfortable! Now why would I make myself suffer like this again on purpose?

...If I have my way I’ll never live near the snow again.

Fast forward 20 years...

I live near the snow again!

Though I can happily say that it is not causing marital strife, I still HATE it. It still causes me to feel uncomfortable, unhappy and very miserable and I'd still rather be living in 110 plus temperatures right now.

So you see, every winter weather story is my WORST winter weather story because

I HATE WINTER!

But at least I still have my Arizona boy to help keep me warm. Now that's something.

Jeanette, I am totally with you! I would have hit that guy. I hate hate hate hate winter!! I hate hate hate hate snow! Give me 110+ anyday. I dreamed of living in Arizona my whole life and I'm glad I got to live that dream for 11 years. Now I'm back to snow, too, but at least I also have a great guy to keep me warm (Californian, not Arizonan, but still a great guy) plus he got me outdoor performance wear for Christmas and I have been much warmer ever since (I don't CARE if its not fashionable, I just want to be WARM, I'm tellin' ya!) Very cute photo and at least the Valley of the Sun is only a few hours away, right?

We're in the DC area which has been hit with the most snow it's ever seen in the past week and I echo your sentiment... I HATE SNOW! I do have to say I'm happy my kids got to see a major snowfall. I used to love it as a kid and have been a little bummed in recent years when we haven't gotten much. I'm over it now though... they've seen a big snow and I'll be happy if it never returns!

I grew up loving winter, loving the snow. And then I lived in Arizona for a couple of years and now Southern California.. so yeah I am with you, no more cold or snow for me!!

I usually like Winter a while, but I'm so totally sick of it now. I want it to be spring!

I lived in Michigan for the better part of my childhood and teen years, and I can honestly say being cold stinks. I hate having cold feet and hands.

Cute picture, by the way.

I'm jealous of everyone who has winter weather right now! I want a snow day in the worst way! The difference between your experience in college and now is that now, you have someone to keep you warm! Love the picture!

I would tell you to come to Texas, but even our weather has been ridiculous lately!

That is so funny! I was born and raised at the beach in So. Cal...moved to the snow, THOUGHT I liked it...yeah not so much...I'm back at the beach in So. Cal! I hope you make it back to the 110 degree weather sooner or later!

My dad (who also went to Ricks) said it was the only place he knew of that could get snow 12 months out of the year! I enjoyed it. Can't say I'd enjoy it now with kids, but as a carefree college kid, sometimes you need silent snowy nights. Hello! For pondering and taking part in the beauty & simplicity!!

I hate winter too!! I've always said that it's because I have Arizona blood. The winters aren't usually so bad here, but this year...over 60" of snow in the last week! Somebody make it stop!!

Winter has been way too long (even though its almost sacreligious to complain about moisture in these ranching communities). I feel like I have to repent everytime I cuss the snow...
