Like sands in the hourglass...

"Your thyroid is low." The doctor said casually.
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"Yadda, yadda, yadda...You have to take medicine everyday for the REST OF YOUR LIFE."
"Oh, okay." At first I complied, but being twenty-one I was at the tale end of the "invincible" stage of life and on top of that I had always been leery of taking pills so after only about a months time I decided, "Thyroid, schmyroid" and forgot the whole nonsense.
.
That is until five years later when my brain started to turn to mush, and feeling much like the walking dead, I went to my new doctor and said, "So doc, I was told a while back that I have a low thyroid. Could you please check that for me?" And I've taken my drugs faithfully everyday, ever since.
.
Well everyday except for the days, sometimes up to a week, that I forget to get my prescription filled each month. That's what's going on with me right now. I'm out of loot people. I have been for about a week and I'm really starting to feel it. So I must ask...
.
#1- Why do the months tick by so fast? I'm out of meds every time I turn around. Seriously what's going on? At this rate I will be ninety years old before I know it. Ninety.
.
And...
.
#2- Why can't I order more pills BEFORE I run out? Or, because this simple task seems to be quite impossible for me, when I do run out why can't I get to the pharmacy before a weeks time has past? What is wrong with this brain of mine?
.
Oh yeah, I have a low thyroid.
That must be it.
I feel much better now.
.
No I don't, I need a hit of synthroid, stat.

My company offers 3 month mail prescriptions and they work like a charm. Hope your thyroid is feeling back up soon!

Hey girl, I hear ya. I had thyroid cancer and so my whole thyroid is removed. I am terrible at remembering to take it and to fill it. Then I wonder why I feel so terrible.

Every so often, I have to go off my thyroid medication for up to six weeks for tests to see if the cancer has returned--let me tell you, I can hardly think straight, I cry, I yell, my family hates it!! The thyroid is a very important little hormone excreting gland!

It is a tiny little gland that seems to affect people in a big way.
I am sorry that you have this problem & hope that you get the medication sorted to the right level and remember to keep taking it as it is so important.
Over here we can get repeat prescriptions & put in for the next lot a week before we run out. It is quite handy.

Interesting post. Thanks for visiting me.

Maybe I should get my thyroid checked...

Try having to keep up with five prescriptions that run out each month. Two you can't get refills on. I hear ya, we are always on the wrong side of time around here too. I wish I could blame my issues on a low thyroid, but it always tests good.

I hope you are fine...

OK, so I had to look it up because I had no thyroid knowledge and wanted a better idea of what you were going through. Ugh. Sounds awful. That thyroid sure isn't helping your Wolverine workout. I also eschew the drugs. And I'm just talking about Tylenol and the likes. I don't have any daily medications *yet*. One of these days I am going to die an early "preventable" death purely because I'd rather not be dependant on a pill.

Oh Jeanette, I totally feel your pain. I have been on Synthroid for ages. So, everyday i take my little pill...now that we don't have insurance - sigh - I have to pay for the bloodwork to get my stinkin prescription filled!! Grrr. But I have been a week-ish without it and I have got to get my fix soon. Feel your pain.
good luck.

look like we all have thyroid issues....I hate having them too. In fact I hate the whole auto immune issue that I am having...frustrating and crappy! I know exactly how you feel....luckily my doc writes for 3 months at a time!
