Fly me to the moon...

Today was a bad day, (or should I say yesterday since I'm posting this after midnight) a very bad day, a "how the heck did I end up in a small town" kind of day.
I apologize to all of my friends and family who LOVE living in a small town and to those who wish they could live in a small town. I know it has its redeeming qualities. I know-- I've seen them, I've lived them, but it's still hard for me.
We are all cut from a different cloth and apparently this isn't my preferred pattern. Apparently I'm cut from a bold, chunky, funky city print, not a country calico. Or maybe it's just that I wore the city print for so long that I don't know how to dress down into sweet simplicity.
But tonight (or last night) I think I found my answer. I know what I must do to be happy here.
I NEED TO BUILD A ROCKET.
We watched the movie, Astronaut Farmer tonight and the main character, a man from a very small town, had a passion to build a rocket and fly into space. Now there's a lofty goal.
While watching this it hit me. What I'm really missing is not the city at all, but my passion.
I had passions in the city, routines, things I loved to do, and these kept me feeling alive and happy. I need to find my passion here.
I need to start BUILDING MY ROCKET.
.
What "rockets" keep you feeling alive and happy?

That's funny, we are opposites! I grew up in a big city (suburbs of wash. dc) and I don't miss it a bit. I guess I was always a small town girl. :o)

my rockets are my family, sewing, and running! Hope you're feeling better soon.

I've lived in some "smallish" places, but never a really small town. I think I would like some things about it, but for the most part I think it would be hard for me, as it is for you. I don't have a lot of "rockets" right now because I'm focusing on my main passion, which is motherhood! I know my little guy will not stay little long, because all my other little guys grew up so fast! I've been trying to keep things simple. I do also love reading, organizing, family history, sewing and other creative projects.

I hope you find a rocket that works for you in a small town!

i feel lucky to have the best and worst of both worlds. i think its the getting out and about thats getting to you. you may need to go outta your box more and get involved more outside the home. check your thrift stores, take a day trip to holbrook and thrift store shop. i found some snazzy stuff in winslow. its tough when money is tight, i know, but sanity is worth the spending. im feeling like i need something too. my social life is suffering, all my eggs are in one basket. im thinking of starting a book club. im also thinking of going back to school. AAck! online of course. im thinking of moving to california.

my rockets are to do lists, lofty goals, friends and household projects.

i have a 150 year old desk you can have... and a 100 year old piano that needs some love and affection. no room.
