Roots...

For the SPT challenge this month, we have been asked to consult our 100 lists (our 100 things about ourselves. I posted mine back in May). On the 7th of the month we'll post an SPT about item #7 on our list. On the 14th of the month, we'll post about item #14. And so on. And so on. So here goes...

........................................................................
Tuesday October 7~
...........................................................................

I was born with beautiful dark hair just like my daddy so I guess it was inevitable, even though I went blonde shortly after birth and stayed that way through my 20's, that eventually my hair would darken again. And it did, little by little after the birth of each of my babies. But it never darkened enough. I was not a rich brunette, nor a blonde. I was a nothing. Dirty dishwater blah. So in desperation I turned to the bottle. I BECAME A SLAVE TO THE BOTTLE! And I hated it. I hated continuously being at the mercy of a hairdresser, being trapped in her chair for three hours at a time only to fork out over 100 dollars when I was done. But I had to keep going back because if I didn't I'd have ROOTS! Nasty, dark, oh so tacky roots.

After putting up with this annoying ritual year after year I finally became fed up enough to get brave, say goodbye to the blonde me and become...

A Brunette!
I am a slave no more. Because although my hair was very resistant to drugstore hair dye in every shade of blonde imaginable (it would turn reddish every time, hence the need to visit an expensive hairdresser) it responds quite well to drugstore brunette. So now instead spending 3 hours getting my hair done (not to mention the hassle of getting a babysitter and all of that), I'm done in less than one and instead of spending over 100 bucks every six weeks, I spend about 10. So forget what they say about blondes because I am definitely having more fun now! Oh, and I forgot the best part...NO MORE ROOTS! Light roots don't show up like dark roots did and it's fabulous!
.
So now the only roots that I have to worry about are the roots of my faith. I feel like everyday I receive more bad news. Another family splitting up, a sickness, accident or death~ loss of a job, home, and possessions~ or worst of all the loss of faith in a God whose loving arm is stretched out toward us.
.
But even with all of this, I know that if my roots are firmly planted in the faith of my Savior Jesus Christ, believing in and ACCEPTING his atoning sacrifice as a source of strength, hope and joy, I can look forward to the future with peace.

And I do,
oh how I do,
look forward with peace!

I love it!! Do you have any suggestions for gray roots? I started turning gray at 30!! I didn't realized you lived so close to the temple. How awesome. Your picture is so inspiring.

I love your hair. I've always wanted to go darker but I don't think I could pull it off. That picture of your Dad brought back so many memories of him and our times together when we were younger.

you are gorgeous as a brunette! i loved your twist on "roots" at the end of your post. is that the san antonio temple? that looks suspiciously similar to texas hill country! it would be pretty cool to run into a texas sista on here. great spt!

I started turning gray so I am off to the hairdresser! I am not talented enough to color my own hair, I'm sure it would turn out purple. Your's looks great brunette! and you can't beat the price.

I always love your posts! I know how you feel about the roots. I had that problem when I would put highlights in my dark hair. I got sick of it and went back to my natural too. Now I'm ready for highlights again, but don't want to pay for the upkeep!

Thanks for your thoughts on faith and peace!

from SPT - I love your hair the dark color. I actually am getting darker and darker hair too (from my mom) and am learning to love it. You look beautiful, so embrace it!

There is nothing worse than dark roots, and you're right you become a slave to them! The price we pay to make ourselves "presentable"!! I love your hair dark but you are cute and can get away with anything, even a white skirt.:)

I too was a blond for many years, but darkened with each child, leaving me with dishwater, blah hair. I gave up the blond hair a few months ago, and I love it! Much cheaper too.

UGH - those roots. I don't have dark roots I have to worry about those dang gray hairs.

I love how you tied your roots in your faith post. How wonderful to be able to look out your window and see the Temple.
